Our teaching method

We offer high quality tuition based on our years of experience teaching German as a Foreign Language. We understand the importance of choosing the right course, therefore we use an accurate and suitable placement test before you start a course in line with the European Reference Frame.

We use weekly progress tests to monitor your progress and when necessary to highlight areas you need to work on. After each course, level students take a final test. Students get a certificate with the final test results on completion of their course.

We believe that language consists of more than just vocabulary and grammar, so we offer a balance between conversation, listening comprehension, grammar, writing and reading and communicative games, films and German newspapers, to ensure our students learn the language effectively in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Homework and learning techniques

From level A2 our classes include text reproductions to train listening comprehension as well as free, creative writing. Homework is an important part  of the course, and learning techniques are always an important part of what we teach in class. German is also the language spoken during breaks.  You get to know your classmates during the break, giving you a chance to practice everything you just learned in the lesson.

Our experience has shown there to be many very important factors when learning a foreign language. Therefore we combine various methods to cater for the different types of learners. We combine communicative teaching models with the corresponding grammar. German is a very systematic language and therefore not as difficult as many believe. Structures are important to speak fluently and use grammatical constructions and vocabulary accurately.

Course levels and placement

We have lessons all-the-year at 6 different levels. You can start each Monday, if you have previous knowledge of German. For absolute beginners we have fixed starting dates each month.

Our courses and placement tests are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by the Council of Europe. Using this official framework, we can establish what your level of German is, and how long it will take to reach a certain level.

The framework distinguishes between three main levels:

  • A1 and A2: elementary language use
  • B1 and B2: independent language use
  • C1: competent language use

Every course level can be completed in about 8 weeks

Using the Common European Framework you can find out what your current level of a language is. If you start  as a beginner, it will take approximately 10-12 months of intensive language tuition to reach a C1 level (advanced).

Placement test

A differentiated and exact placement test on your first Monday at ADK – containing one written and one oral part – ensures that we will find a class which corresponds your language level. Every Monday there is a short test taken in class which helps you to judge your progress. You can also consult your teacher at any time.

We use the following books in our Intensive courses:

  • A1: Menschen Volume  1
  • A2: Menschen volume 2
  • B1: Menschen Volume 3
  • B2: Line 1 Beruf B2
  • C1: Linie 1 Beruf C1
